The Warm Homes: Local Grant is a UK Government-funded initiative designed to help low-income households in England make energy efficiency improvements and install low-carbon heating.

The objective is to:
- Reduce energy bills
- Improve home comfort
- Support Net Zero goals
If you appear eligible:
- You complete a short eligibility check or application form
- Your local authority reviews the application
- A home energy survey is arranged if approved
- Suitable energy efficiency improvements are installed at no cost to you
In addition to the property criteria, at least one of the following must apply to your household:
1. Low Household Income
Your gross household income is typically £36,000 or less per year
2. Receipt of Means-Tested Benefits
You may qualify if someone in your household receives certain means-tested benefits, which may include:
- Universal Credit
- Pension Credit (Guarantee or Savings Credit)
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income Support
- Housing Benefit
- (Final benefit eligibility is confirmed by your local authority.)
3. Eligible Postcode or Priority Area
Some households qualify based on postcode-based or deprivation criteria, even if income exceeds £36,000
Eligibility through this route varies by local authority.
4. Also…
- Private tenants can apply, but landlord approval is required before any work can be carried out.
- Social housing properties (most council or housing association homes) are not usually eligible under this scheme.
- Eligibility is subject to local authority assessment and funding availability.
- All approved improvements are fully funded for eligible households – there is no upfront cost.

Funding Is Available
In many cases, households could receive up to around £30,000 in total funding across these measures (for example, approximately £15,000 for energy improvements and £15,000 for low-carbon heating) depending on local delivery arrangements and survey results.
